JAKARTA — Amidst the increasingly heated global geopolitical noise, President-elect Prabowo Subianto's move to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Vladivostok has sparked various reactions. Unfortunately, there is no shortage of discordant voices and negative narratives deliberately spread by certain domestic factions. Some accuse Indonesia of taking a "wrong step," jeopardizing relations with the West, and spreading fear of international sanctions.
However, let us throw these pessimistic narratives into the dustbin of history. The meeting in Vladivostok is not a form of submission to any bloc, but rather the most gallant manifestation of our foreign policy: Free and Active (Bebas Aktif). Indonesia cannot be dictated to! This strategic move is purely to secure national interests and usher in the golden awakening of Indonesia.
Unveiling Real Results: From Food Security to Future Tech
Skeptics close their eyes to the concrete results of this meeting. Facts and data regarding the agreements on the ground show that this diplomacy brings a massive "victory" for our national resilience and prosperity.
First, the Fortress of Food Security. At a time when the world is threatened by a food crisis, this meeting ensures the smooth supply chain of fertilizers and wheat to Indonesia. What does this mean? Our farmers will not cry over fertilizer shortages, and the price of basic food on the people's tables will remain stable. This is the preventive step of a leader protecting his people's livelihoods.
Second, Energy and Tech Leaps. No longer merely a buyer, Indonesia is now pushing for high-level technology transfer cooperation, including exploring nuclear energy for peaceful (power generation) and medical purposes. This is the key for Indonesia to eventually possess cheap, clean, and independent energy resilience to support massive industrial downstreaming.
Third, Investing in the Nation's Brainpower. One of the sweetest results rarely highlighted is the commitment to expand scholarship quotas for Indonesian youth to study at leading Russian universities, particularly in medicine, nuclear engineering, and aerospace. The narrative claiming that closeness with Russia will isolate Indonesia is an obsolete and unfounded fear. In fact, under a leadership willing to take calculated risks, Indonesia is increasingly respected as an Asian tiger with bargaining power equal to superpowers.
